Cinnamon Rolls

Fake cinnamon rolls created for Electric City Playhouse’s 2024 production of Calendar Girls. In the play, members of a women’s club create a calendar full of nude portraits of themselves to raise funds to purchase a new couch for a hospital’s waiting room. One of these calendar photos was baking themed. I was asked to make two large cinnamon rolls to cover the actress’s chest, and several smaller ones to use as set dressing.

The cinnamon rolls were created from strips of project foam. I soaked the strips in watery paint to give them a doughy color before rounding them off
An extremely serious picture of myself modeling progress on the boob-concealing cinnamon rolls. Scandalous.
I airbrushed a medium brown on one side of each strip to make the dough look more cooked, and darker brown on the other side of each for the cinnamon. Then I hot glued them into spiral cinnamon roll shapes.
I iced the cinnamon rolls with a mixture of Mod Podge and spackle, as recommended by “fake bake” artists in my research. If I were to revisit this project with a longer timeline, I’d like to experiment with materials like silicone that may be able to provide better translucency and flexibility

I gifted extra cinnamon rolls to the cast and crew at the end of the show. They were distributed via the snack table, and fooled several people into thinking they were getting an edible treat
