Hairspray

Electric City Playhouse, 2025
Directed and music directed by Brianna Pruiett

I played Prudy Pingleton, Penny’s racist, strict, and overprotective mother. She disapproves of things like dancing, integration, andabove allPenny’s involvement in them. She’s a real caricature of a person and I had a delightful time acting thoroughly appalled by absolutely everything happening onstage. With the director’s support, my personal challenge for myself was to startle at least one person in the cast every single time Prudy exploded into the room screaming for her daughter during the break in You Can’t Stop the Beat. I succeeded.

Tracy (Morgan Parrish) runs in to catch the rest of Nicest Kids In Town on TV just as Edna (Josh Pruiett) had the audacity to criticize the stains on Prudy’s pettipants.
Penny (Faith Miller) horrifies her mother Prudy by dancing the twist and shout during Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now
The mothers stand firm as their daughters beg to be treated like adults in Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now
Prudy scolds Penny (Faith Miller) in Mama, I’m a Big Girl Now
Prudy hugs a still-alarmed Seaweed (Christian Reeder) after she has a sudden change of heart about racism during You Can’t Stop the Beat
